“I wouldn’t be who I am today without the experiences had, challenges overcome and friends met during my trips”, explained Jessamy Baudains, a 22-year-old student in Journalism.
Guided by her passions for literature, history, photography and travel, her dream is to become a travel writer.
“My interest in Journalism didn’t come to me one day as a light bulb moment”, she said. What she loves is people and writing. She initially wanted to be an actress, then applied to become an English teacher, then thought maybe she wanted to be a lawyer. She tried many different options but it kept coming back to journalism and writing, what she enjoys and what she is good at.
Jessamy has done some freelance work for magazines and online publications, and she often updates her blog on wordpress. Curious, hard-working and passionate, Jessamy always wants to learn more, hear more and see more. “I guess this is a quality essential to a good journalist so hopefully I am halfway there”, she said.
Originally from Guernsey but currently studying in London, the young journalist wants to travel the world. Even with journalism opportunities back home, she is planning to go to Australia next year and find a job in the journalism industry.
Every penny she earns goes towards a trip. She already travelled through East Africa for a few months, to Sri Lanka for a month, but also to many countries in Europe.
“I would be lost if I couldn’t travel”, she said.
